Jennifer was inspired for this print by Harry Clarke's work based on the poem ‘The Eve of St Agnes’ which tells the myth that a young Maiden Madeline would see a vision of her lover. Harry was inspired by the romantic story written by English poet John Keats of two lovers escaping to be together on a cold, windy, stormy night. With this scarf, you will wear a piece of stunning art, inspired by Irish heritage and culture.

Through her designs Jennifer wants to reignite the Celtic Revival (also known as the Celtic Twilight) of the 19th and 20th centuries in the 21st century. Her work and her designs celebrate Irish artists, folklore, legends and traditions through fashion in a modern and contemporary way.

In 2016 The National Gallery of Ireland purchased 3 of Jennifer's designs (Madeline silk shirt dress, Kells and 1916 silk scarves) for the National Collection of Contemporary Applied Art.

In choosing pieces from Jennifer Rothwell’s collections Alex Ward, Curator of Dress and Textiles, National Museum of Ireland: Decorative Arts and History said "I felt that these particular designs would beautifully complement and enhance the existing collections at the National Museum of Ireland in that they represent a very contemporary interpretation of Irish events and movements from a century ago. Jennifer’s Kells print is a modern reimagining of ancient motifs that were popular during the Celtic Revival and her reworking of Harry Clarke designs recalls the best of the Irish Arts and Crafts movement. By incorporating the GPO into a new print Rothwell commemorates the 1916 Rising in a very unique way. Produced using up-to-the minute digital print technology these vibrant pieces evoke our past and at the same time represent contemporary Irish design."

Dimensions: approximately 54x54cm
Composition: 100% Silk
