THE FOURTH CHAPTER IN THE MIDLETON VERY RARE SILENT DISTILLERY COLLECTION IS UNVEILED

The latest chapter in Ireland's oldest and rarest whiskey collection

The Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection includes six releases that represent the last of the liquid from the legendary Old Midleton Distillery. Chapter Four is a 48-year-old blended Irish whiskey born out of the careful marrying of an outstanding grain and pot whiskey in an ex-bourbon cask. Following a carefully handled blending process which involved adding the pot whiskey into the particularly delicate grain whiskey cask without losing any of this liquid gold, the whiskeys completed their maturation journey together. Resulting in a whiskey that is silk textured and full bodied, with fruit, spice and finesse combined to present a wonderfully complex expression. With a bottling strength of 53.9%, only 119 bottles of this unique whiskey will be available. 5 of these exclusive bottles are available for purchase at The Loop.

Silent Distillery Chapter 4 Tasting Notes

Nose: Notes of chocolate dipped honeycomb with caramelised red apples and quince jelly. Luxurious aromas are enhanced by the sweetness of coffee cake and vanilla-scented cream, while earthy fragrances are matched by those of an antique cedarwood cigar box. Dried flowers, that still carry delicate waves of a floral perfume, add to the array of flavours.

Taste: An explosion of fruits at first with fresh plums, peaches, and dried apricot. A hint of chilli oil and grated ginger follows. Delicate oak tannins, perfectly balanced with the fruits and pot still spices, work in harmony with a suggestion of mature Roqueford Floral and sweet grain whiskey add finesse, making this a wonderfully complex blend that is silk-textured and full-bodied.

Finish: Stone fruits and soft spices continue to linger for a time, with the oak tannins quietly fading into the background.

THE FIFTH CHAPTER OF THE MIDLETON DAIR GHAELACH SERIES FROM KILRANELAGH ESTATE

The fifth chapter of the Midleton Dair Ghaelach series takes us to Kilranelagh Estate near Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow. Situated amidst rolling hills of Wicklow, the native Irish woodland on the estate has been managed carefully and in tune with nature by the Westerholt family for the last 300 years.

Together with our forestry specialist team, 6 Irish oak trees were chosen to create an extremely limited number of casks. These casks were filled with a specially selected range of fifteen to twenty-eight-year-old Single Pot Still whiskeys previously matured in American oak barrels.

Nosed and tasted every month, Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman and Blender, David McCabe kept a vigilant watch on the liquid. After two years, the Irish oak influence was deemed to have struck a perfect balance with the Single Pot Still character. It’s as individual as it is irresistible; whiskey as satisfyingly Irish as it is undeniably elegant.

As an investment in the future of coopering oak, Midleton Very Rare has partnered with Forestry Genetic Research Trust to create an Oak Seed Orchard Project that will curate the next generation of Irish Oak forests.
